boys game tonight POSTPONED

Houston Wellspring called us this morning to cancel the game tonight.

We have tentatively re-scheduled for Monday, February 15th at 6 pm, but that is awaiting confirmation as they check on facility and referee.

Enjoy the evening off and stay safe!

Friday's game

Friday's game will be for the 18U group only, and there will only be one game (they don't have a girls' team)

Meet in the Kmart parking lot at 5 pm if you want to caravan to the 6:30 pm game in Houston. Please make arrangements for your son to get to the game; Coach Hall will have several seats available in his car. Let him know if you need to ride with him (201-1020 is his cell)

The game will be at Faith Fellowship Church, which is on Highway 17 west of Houston. (Google Maps has the church in the wrong location, so don't trust it for directions)

Directions:
Take Highway 63 south from Rolla to Houston. In Houston, turn right on Highway 17 -- there is a light at that intersection. Go several miles west on Highway 17 until you see a big building in the middle of nowhere. That is Faith Fellowship church.

Note:
This is a carpeted gym. If you have access to knee pads, you may want to wear them to protect your knees!

RE: travel plans tonight

O.K. Since there are 2 large vehicles going, I will go ahead and bring my
small car instead of the large van. I can still hold one person.

I'll be leaving with the 3:30 gang from Kroger's and driving our Excursion.
It seats 11 -- 2 of those are my son and I, so I can take 9 others.

We'll be leaving after the JV game (not staying through the Varsity) and can
take anyone from the JV team back who's not staying.

Paul Hammacher will be there for the Varsity game with his big van -- it
seats 11 or 12 (or more?), so he'll be able to take back any folks we
brought down who are still there.

That should cover quite a few folks. See you all soon!

RE: travel plans tonight

Dawn et al,

Initially, we were planning on driving the mini-van with some family members to arrive in time (7:00 ish) for the varsity game; however, if the need still exists to take people earlier (3:30 at Kroger), then we can go earlier and take the larger van, not to worry.

Just let us know how many we need to take, which, in turn, will decide the vehicle we drive.  Thanks again for coordinating all the efforts.

Pax Christi,

Paul

If we have not heard from you, please let us know your travel plans for the game tonight.

We have several players who need rides, and at this point, don't have enough seatbelts for everyone at the time they need to go.

We (the Halls) had been planning to go as a family, but if need be, we can leave some home or take two cars --- but before we do that, we need to hear if anyone else has a vehicle going with space for riders, and what time you are leaving. It would also help to know if you are planning to stay for all 3 games.

Thanks for responding as soon as you are able, even if you aren't sure of your plans!

RE: travel plans tonight

Hi Dawn,

I had emailed that I'd be driving Colin and we could take two or three more
with us. However, if you're still short drivers, I can take our Excursion
instead of my car and that would enable us to fit as many as 9 riders
besides he and I, if necessary. It's a hog on gas so we'll only use it if
needed, due to the distance, but it's certainly not a problem to bring it if
it IS needed. I don't want anyone to not be able to go...

Let me know. Blessings,

Chris

Gameday T-shirts

Well, we are now completed our first year experiment of hosting "tournaments" here in Rolla. A big thank you to all of you who helped in some way, especially today, since you pitched in with no prior notice :)

The St. Louis Patriettes and the SWMO Lady Eagles were here today, and from the little that I was able to see, it looked like we had 3 pretty good games. We lost to both teams, but we gave both of them a good game.

We'd welcome any input you may have on doing these events again next year, positive or negative. We want to learn from this experience and do better next year. We do know that both the St. Louis and Springfield teams appreciated the opportunity and are likely to come again if we host next year.

One thing that worked out pretty well was our t-shirts -- we purposely designed them so we could use the same shirt for both the boys and the girls, and ordered plenty extra for the boys tournament. Not many extra were sold, so we had 36 left over, and with only 2 teams coming today, decided to wait to order any more t-shirts. We came out pretty close to having just enough -- we were able to give the opposing team players shirts that worked for them, and were just a few short to give our girls.

I will be ordering shirts on Monday for those players who did not get them. Any parents or siblings who are interested in a gameday shirt, we will sell them to you at our cost, which will be $8 or so.. We also have 5 youth 10-12 shirts we will sell at the same cost. (the logo is attached if you want to see it)

Please let me know what size shirt you need, girls who didn't get one, and anyone else who wants to buy one, send me the size you want.

travel tomorrow

A few more things --
Be sure to bring a bottle of water and food to eat in the car or between games. Most drivers will likely just want to get home, and not stop to get food, so don't expect that.

Also, please bring gas money to give to your driver.

In case you've looked at Google maps and are wondering why we aren't allowing more driving time,
we've found that Google maps overestimates the driving time. Coach Hall is very familiar with this route and believes 2 hours is plenty of time.

Corrected directions to Mansfield, other thoughts on driving

I left an important word (right) off in the previous email -- please use these directions:

Directions to Mansfield Community Center

205 North Missouri Avenue

Mansfield, MO

South of Rolla on US-63 to Cabool (62.3 miles)

When you reach Cabool, take US-60 Business West for 3 miles

Then continue on US-60 for 25 miles to Mansfield

Turn left at US 60- Business West in Mansfield

Take the first right onto W. Jennifer Street

Turn left at North Lincoln St.

Take the first right onto Ohio Street

Take the 2nd left onto North Missouri Avenue. The Community Center will be on the right.

Additional thoughts:

Google Maps actually suggests a route taking I-44 to Lebanon and then south on Mo-5. We have heard that 5 is very windy and dangerous, and feel that US 63 is a better alternative for most of us. Those of you who live north of the interstate may want to consider that route.

Also, those of you who live in Salem and other areas south of Rolla should try to carpool without coming to Rolla. Perhaps we could set up a meeting place in Licking. If we can help coordinate any arrangements, let us know.

Thursday and Friday games

Thursday games vs. Whetstone Christian Academy

We just found out that the games are going to be played in Mansfield at the Community Center, which is just a little farther drive. We apologize that we were not able to give you more notice on this.

First game, 14U boys, will be at 6 pm. The girls will follow at about 7 pm, with the 18U boys playing the final game.

The boys will meet at Kmart to leave at 4 pm. Please let us know at this e-mail if you are driving, have room for riders, and/or need a ride to the game. I will be helping Dan coordinate this. I assume the girls will be coordinating their rides as they have been all season (it has been nice not to have to be involved!).

Coach Hall is on his way to the gym  (6:20 pm).

We belatedly realized that since the girls aren't practicing tonight, we have access to the gym earlier... so come as soon as you are able!

end of year tournament

I just received the following information about the Ozark Association of Christian Schools year-end varsity tournament. There will be 8 girls teams and 8 boys teams participating in the tournament. Just for some history, this conference started last year with 5 schools who are mostly in the southern part of the state and in Arkansas. This year, they added a northern part, which includes us, Lebanon, Camdenton, Whetstone and Wellspring(Houston).

After Feb 22nd, teams will be seeded and first round of games will be played on Friday, March 5th in either Mansfield or West Plains.

Then the rest of the tournament will be played Saturday, March 6th in Harrison, Arkansas, where they have access to two gyms, making it possible to run both the girls and boys tournaments simultaneously. The coordinator assured me that they would schedule the games such that those of us who have a longer drive would be later in the day. I pointed out that with a game on Friday night in Mansfield or West Plains, it may not make sense for us to drive home anyway...

Since there is no longer a state or regional tournament being held nearby (it was in Lebanon for many years), this is our best opportunity for a tournament to end our season. However, we understand that participating in this tournament will mean a significant amount of driving and additional expenses that some families may not have anticipated. It is 200 miles from Rolla to Harrison, Arkansas, via West Plains or Mansfield, and 180 back (through Springfield, which would be the fastest way). We also understand that there are some significant conflicts for some of you this weekend.

So, we're asking for your input before we make a final decision. Please give us and/or your coach input as to how you feel about participating in this tournament. (only Varsity level players are involved).

Re: missing items after games last night

I have both items listed and a few more besides.  There were two light jackets left, a ninja turtle toy and a basketball.  We thought the ball might belong to the other team and since we'll see them next week, if it is theirs we can return it.  (Dawn, can you contact them and ask if they were missing one?)  The ball has no name written on it so if you think it is yours you will have to provide identifying information to verify it.  Anyone who can describe the jackets can also claim them.
Call me if you think any of these items belong to you.

2) I (Dawn Hall) left a black sweater in the bleachers near the door.

Thanks for any help in this matter!

Re: Practice tonight/Game information for tomorrow night

There will be concessions at the games tomorrow night.  It seemed to work well to have them with the admissions last time so that is what I plan to do tomorrow.  It would be nice to have two adults at the tables, so more volumteers will be needed besides Judy and Jan.  I will be there by the girl's game but not for the first game.  Judy, can we get together tomorrow morning sometime to exchange cash box?  I will send concessions in with my kids before the first game.

Thanks,
Jeanine

#1 Practice tonight at HIGH SCHOOL. Enter through the practice gym door, which should be unlocked by 5:45 pm

#2 Games vs. Whetstone Christian Academy at the Junior High School

/Again, we are squeezing in 3 games this night, so we need to start as promptly as possible, and teams need to warm up in the practice gym before their game, as they will have limited warm-up time on the game floor between games./

   * 14U Boys 6 pm -- arrive by 5:45 pm
   * Girls -- 7:15 pm (or earlier, if possible)
   * 18U Boys 8:30 pm(or earlier, if possible)

Due to scheduling conflicts, I will not be there tomorrow night. I see this as a GOOD thing, because it will help everyone remember that RHAA events can and will happen without Dawn Hall! Thank you all for your willingness to help out!

Concessions -- not sure if there is a plan for any this game...

Scoreboard -- Lee Robertson, are you available? Does anyone else want to help/learn how to run the board?

Scorebook -- Terry Callahan are you available for the boys' games? Is someone available to keep the book for the girls?

in case of confusion

Practice for the boys is at 7:30 pm. The  girls have practice before the boys, at 6:00 pm.The door being unlocked at 5:45pm was mentioned for their benefit. It should still be unlocked when the boys arrive later. Sorry for any confusion.

boys practice

Please check your calendars to see when practices are scheduled, and let me know if you can't make it. Don't count on an email reminder for every practice, though we will send reminders sometimes, because of unusual situations or changes.

For example, Thursday's practice is at 7:30 pm at the HIGH SCHOOL. Entrance will be through the practice gym.

Practices today, Thursday, Jan 7th

Due to the closing of public schools, we cannot practice in the junior high gym tonight.

Coaches may move practices to Redeemer Lutheran, which is available some of the afternoon and evening. That decision will be made later this morning, after coaches have the chance to see what road conditions are like.

Please stay tuned for more information :)

practice jersey missing

Reminder:
The practice jerseys you were issued should be brought to every practice! Apparently, some are not bringing them, and so they are shared around, and sometimes those who brought them can't find theirs at the end of practice..

Jersey #21 was brought to practice last night by one of the boys but could not be found when needed -- possibly one of the girls took it home accidentally? Please check to be sure you have the jersey you were issued and not any extras. Let us know if you have it.

Thanks!

practice last night confusion

I apologize that some of you did not get the message that practice was no longer at Mark Twain, as on the original calendar. I got it changed on the website calendar, but I don't think I sent any emails notifying you of the change until yesterday, and I understand that it was too late for a few of you. I will take some time tonight to look at the printed calendar and make sure any changes have been communicated so we don't have this happen again. I try to get reminders out earlier in the day, and I should have because of the change, but I just didn't. I'm sorry.

This is a good reminder to check your email before you head into town for practice...with the forecast on snow on Wed night, there is a chance we'll have to cancel practice or re-schedule to a different facility on Thursday (if schools are closed we can't use their gym). We'll let you know as soon as we are able what the plan is..
